From my point of view, the cartoon illustrates that people sometimes does not realize about the real and risky situation because they do not observe what happens around. If they observed they would do something about it. I think this illustration represents this because if we read the quotation: “Lets see what’s going on in the world” and we see the atomic bomb outside the window we can find out that it was not necessary to turn on the TV to know that news in order to do something, for instance, to escape from that house.
II. Reflective writing
1. Reflect on the importance of the initial observation period in final practicum
.
I think this period was a crucial one due to the information and familiarization that I got from it. If I hadn’t observed the class (specifically “1º medio D”) I wouldn’t have became aware of the student’s background and previous knowledge to start the team teaching stage and my practicum work.
2. Refer to the observed issues in assigned school, and explain if these issues caused a change on the expectations you had about this particular period.
I didn’t know “Liceo Barón” before I was assigned to work there. So, the only information I found on the Internet was the big number of male population that the high school. However, I didn’t have so many expectations about my future work there. Therefore, I didn’t have a change on my expectations. However, I became surprised after I observed the class and I discovered their behavior and their background since I realized that the class had diversity, instead of being a homogeneous group of students with similar hobbies and things that they like.
3. How did you feel? Provide one example you consider most relevant to support your answer.
I felt challenged. The week the observation stage lasted, I realized about my situation, and the new challenges I will face in the practicum. Moreover, I recognized that it was only the first step. I have a long trip that I will walk. I became aware of this new challenge after I observed my guide teacher, the high school and my new students.
